The University of California, Riverside selected Barnhart Balfour Beatty as the construction manager-at-risk for a LEED Gold-targeted 350k SF, $104M  apartment village—Glen Mor 2—to house more than 800 students. (Academic pursuits, and beer pong, in a LEED Silverbuilding is so 2009.) UCR's goal is to increase on-campus housing to 50% of the student population, campus architect/associate vice chancellor Don Caskey says. Glen Mor 2 follows the Glen Mor 1 on-campus apartment housing, which opened in 2007. Following a year of pre-construction planning, groundbreaking for Glen Mor 2 is expected in June 2011, with completion in July 2013. A pedestrian bridge will link Glen Mor 2 to Glen Mor 1 and provide easy walking connections to the campus. Barnhart Balfour Beatty is sharing pre-construction planning for the project with San Francisco-based architect Sasaki Associates. Barnhart Balfour Beatty has performed $54M in work on other UCR projects.
