BRIDGE BUILDING
SMU Summer Youth Program students

Driving near downtown, it's easy to see the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge coming together (it's scheduled to open in March). But, last month, a team of 10 eighth and ninth graders in the SMU Summer Youth Program got hands-on experience spending a recent Saturday building their own model of the bridge. The students (above, by SMU?s Kim Ritzenthaler) built the  six-foot tall/20-foot long model, complete with the 58 cables (like the real bridge) after spending a day on the construction site and talking with engineers. If they can do this after only a day, maybe TxDOT should start recruiting.
