Run-off for Rahm

Placeholder

Rahm Emanuel may have raised $15M for his campaign (with the help of Chicago’s real estate elite), but he still didn’t capture enough votes to win yesterday and will face Jesus “Chuy” Garcia (who raised $1.3M) in a run-off this April. Chicago hasn’t seen a citywide run-off since 1999 and turnout is expected to be substantially higher, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. While many believe it’s a long shot for Chuy to topple Rahm’s mighty machine, the extra weeks of campaigning will help Garcia tap into the Black/Hispanic/progressive-white voting base of his mentor, Harold Washington, the Sun-Times writes.
