Atrium Village Redevelopment Includes 20% Affordable Housing

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Friday for Onni Group's plans to redevelop Atrium Village in Old Town. Construction on the 1,500-unit project will begin in mid-spring.

Onni wanted to move forward with the project sooner, but Ald. Walter Burnett Jr. (27th) insisted that 20% of the units be set aside for affordable housing, DNAInfo reports. Onni countered with 10%, the minimum requirement under the city's Affordable Requirements Ordinance, but ultimately agreed to Burnett's demands.

Construction will officially begin on Atrium Village in eight weeks. [DNA]
