Iconic Marshall Field's Clocks Get New Paint

Chicago

The iconic, historic clocks decorating the exterior of the former Marshall Field's department store in downtown Chicago are getting a makeover. The clocks, which are cast in bronze and hang at the corners of Washington and State streets and Randolph and State streets, were repainted and polished Wednesday morning. The restorations come after many noticed that it was hard to see the Roman numerals on the clocks from street level, a Macy's spokeswoman told the Chicago Tribune. The clocks are over 100 years old, but were rewired with a GPS system in 2009 to make them more accurate. They are well-known for being featured in a 1945 Norman Rockwell painting. [Tribune]
