Just elected president of the Boston Architectural Society for 2016,she’ll focus on climate resiliency and rezoning edge areas to create dense, affordable, bike-friendly neighborhoods. Nicknamed by her client the Mother of the Micro Unit (above in Italy with kids Teo and Olivia), Tamara is designing student housing, a Yotel at the Seaport and Troy Boston in the South End. Raised in New Hampshire, her family just got by. She wanted to be an artist but Dad advised another choice. “We aren’t the Medicis,” he explained. Turning people-pleasing into consensus-building, Tamara likes finding designs that are artful and work for everyone: client, users, neighborhood and city. Advice: Be your authentic self; then you’ll attract clients that are the right fit. Don’t be afraid to be confident, warm, fun. Keep working after you have children; otherwise you’ll have trouble returning at the same level.
