Emily, who manages the 804k SF One Boston Place high-rise in Downtown Crossing for clients TIAA-CREEF and SITQ, says it’s critical to keep learning from everyone. After a minor fire in the fall (no injuries), she picked up a new mobile app suggested by a young team member that allows her to broadcast messages to tenant contacts via phone or iPad. Retired industry vet Jane Williams, once a colleague, also gave Emily lots of help as a great role model and boss who knew when to give her more responsibility. In the '80s, after Colby College, Emily worked as a residential mortgage broker. Ten years later, she got into commercial real estate property management. Now, her building is 92% occupied thanks in part to recent lease renewals by tenants like Boston Capital and Robinson & Cole. Emily, 2012 BOMA High Rise Manager of the Year, says “be a sponge” to keep learning, and join professional groups. Aim high, especially if you join the 1,200 climbers in the February Race Up Boston Place (41 stories) to benefit the American Lung Association.
