5 New (and Possible) Development Projects Along the Boston Marathon Route

Boston

You've been training hard for the Boston Marathon (running or exercising your eyes for viewing endurance), and April 18 is right around the corner. When runners look up, they'll see many new developments. We're tracking them for you, from the ones awaiting approval to the new arrivals, starting with the Ashland leg. Stay tuned for more in the coming weeks.

Ashland Woods

Developer: Trask

Size: 64k SF

Completion Date: Bldg 2 is already complete, Bldg 1 is due soon.

You'll have easy access to the race if you live in this 60-unit apartment complex. It's in the Highway Commerce Zone and includes two 32k SF buildings with 30 units each. One-bedrooms run 800 SF and two-bedrooms from 1,080 SF to 1,220 SF. There's also a fitness center and 24/7 maintenance staff. 25% of the units are affordable (six one-bedroom and nine two-bedroom).

Residential Care and Rehabilitation Nursing Center

Location: 250 West Union St

Developer: G&L Enterprises

Size: 52,440 SF

Completion Date: November 2016

The elderly enjoy a good race just as much as the next person, and they won't be far from the action in this new nursing home. When complete, Residential Care and Rehabilitation Nursing Center will have 103 beds in 57 rooms, along with 87 parking spaces and amenities.

73 Olive St Subdivision

Developer: Jillson Co

Size: 5.34 acres

Completion Date: TBD

The wetlands in this project are still awaiting approval by the Conservation Committee, but if it goes through, it will be a subdivision of four lots on more than five acres. The parcel has one of the few remaining homes in Ashland built before 1800, according to the Historical Commission. It was apparently home to Ashland's first selectman, Dexter Rockwood. The historical property will stay on the land.

The Residences at West Union

Location: 133 West Union St

Developer: Capital Group Properties

Size: 7.62 acres

Completion Date: TBD

If approved, this parcel, formerly known as Green Meadow Farm, will become the Residences at West Union, a 140-unit development with 35 affordable units. The parcel's historic Valentine estate will remain on-site as a clubhouse.

Village of the Americas Phase VII

Developer: Ashland Chestnut Realty Trust

Size: 13.21 acres

Completion Date: TBD

This project is also in the early stages of review. If approved, it will consist of the final 13 buildings of the Village of the Americas, built in the same style as the previous 69 buildings of the first six phases. The buildings will hold 52 condos; the project could possibly include a bike path.
