REMEMBERING WILLIAM "DON" SCHAEFER
William Schaefer, Baltimore, MD, mayor, inner harbor, renaissance, Marty Millspaugh, obituary
Baltimore City lost a legend Monday when former Mayor William ?Don? Schaefer (who made Camden Yards, Harborplace, and the National Aquarium a reality) passed at the age of 89. Marty Millspaugh managed the redevelopment of the Inner Harbor for the city during the Schaefer administration, and he told us yesterdaythat Don's greatest talent was making things happen at a ?high level.? For example: Schaefer created a trust fund to finance projects with transformative potential, Marty says, creating a renaissance for the Inner Harbor that's radiated to neighborhoods like Canton and Federal Hill. Schaefer's biggest accomplishment? Giving Baltimoreans confidence in their city, says Marty.
