Big Blue Meets Big RFP For Big Weather Data

Central Perimeter is facing a warm front of a big office RFP heading its way.

Sources tell us WeatherChannel.com, the digital platform of The Weather Channel purchased earlier this year by IBM, is searching the Perimeter submarket for up to 150k SF of prime office space. The RFP was issued by IBM, which tapped both Scotland Wright & Associates' namesake Scotland Wright (here) and brokers at CBRE to handle.

Also known as The Weather Co, the digital division could leave The Weather Channel's longtime Cobb County home at 300 Interstate North Pkwy, where in 2014 it was in talks with Cobb County for tax incentives to stay put. And while Central Perimeter as an office submarket has been tight for the past few years thanks in large part to State Farm, space is opening up, both with Seven Oak's spec office 4004 Perimeter Summit project and even some State Farm sublease space. It's unclear as of press time what properties Weather.com is eyeing.
