Walton Development Eyes Sugarloaf Mega Project

Placeholder

Walton Development and Management has targeted Gwinnett County for another land play. The firm filed a DRI with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for Sugarloaf Crossing, a planned mixed-use project that could see 2.25M SF of office, 20k SF of retail and a 375-unit apartment complex. Walton's Frederic Shmurak tells us the project is office-heavy because of the future of the area: “We just see natural progression of growth moving down Highway 316,” he says. The DRI filing indicates the project off Winder Highway and GA 316 along the Sugarloaf Parkway extension will be complete by 2020. That said, Walton does have a strategy where it assembles land, gets the parcels entitled and then possibly co-develops or sells to other developers, as we've reported here in the past. But Frederic says it's unclear whether Walton will move forward with this project on its own.
