How Will The Falcons 'Sphincter' Work?

Just how is that new Falcons Stadium roof going to retract? That's what online blog Gizmodo asked in a posting Tuesday. The architectural firm HOK released the video fly-through of the under-construction stadium earlier this month. "The mechanics of the aperture seem fairly simple, but I'm curious about the tracks the eight roofing modules seem to slide on, and what's powering them--not to mention how the movement will affect the rest of the structure, and how it will stand up to high winds," writes Gizmodo's Kelsey Campbell-Dollaghan. But perhaps the biggest revelation comes from what others are dubbing the roof: "The Sphincter."
