Forest City's Fort Mack Glimpse
An advance technology lab for Georgia Tech. An expansion for the Veterans Administration. A possible distribution center. And maybe even a movie studio. These are all what could be part of the former Fort McPherson. (We'd like to throw in a suggestion for the world's largest jungle gym.)
We spent some time this past week in Las Vegas with Forest City Enterprises Will Voegele, who is part of the effort to redevelop the former US Army base, along with Cousins Properties and Integral Group. Plans on the project, Will says, are still on hold as the partnership awaits the official transfer of the land (originally 100 acres, now a whopping 400). The hope and belief is that this will happen this year, Will says.
A lot of the wheels are in motion already in that marketing effort. Its just not public and visible yet, Will tells us. Above, one of the conceptual renderings the JV is touting on its website for the property. Will says they are mulling the possibility of adding a film studio site to Fort Mack, given metro Atlantas blossoming film industry. (Which will lead to a blossoming paparazzi industry.) Right now were in this phase of exploring opportunities and planning, he says, adding that the JV should have more clarity this year on the makeup of the development. But I dont think youre going to see ground breaking this year.
