A NEW RETAIL CENTER?

A NEW RETAIL CENTER?
We may be seeing new retail development again in Atlanta. Perhaps even within the year.

A NEW RETAIL CENTER?
Healey Weatherholtz Properties is in the planning stages to begin thefirst phase of a new 150k SF open-air lifestyle center on 6.5 acres at the corner of Colliers and Howell Mill roads (seen here). HWP'sMark Lindenbaum tells us the plan includes reconfiguring the existing US Post Office on the site to make way for additional retail—in addition to constructing additional buildings. Mark tells us they intend to kick-off Phase 1 sometime later this year. The parcel (home to Willy?s Mexican Grill and McDonald?s) was acquired last year for $6.5M by HWP, a firm whose partners include Quill Healey II and Eric Weatherholtz. Novare Group originally assembled the site and had planned a major mixed-use project that was thwarted by the recession.
A NEW RETAIL CENTER?
We met Mark for a photo shoot at Shops Around Lenox—another HWP redevelopment project that's undergoing a $3M renovation (it includes unique storefront designs for each tenant). Shops Around Lenox most recently inked deals with Cosabella, an upscale lingerie store, for 1,000 SF; Paper Source, a national paper supply retailer for 2,500 SF; and Lululemon Athletica—think $250 yoga outfits—for 3,000 SF. Mark says the firm is in talks with an unidentified anchor tenant for the 28k SF space that once housed Tower Records and computer retailer CompUSA. Mark says the retail lineup is lasertargeted to appeal to affluent female shoppers. HWP?s Kelly Scott is heading up the leasing efforts there.
