We went to the Rihanna Anti Tour at Verizon Center

Her impressive non-stop medley of chart toppers (Stay, Birthday Cake, Better Have My Money, Consideration and Umbrella) barely gave her audience a chance to rest, many standing over an hour into her two-hour set. As soon as they sat, Rihanna asked the audience to rise for a moment of silence for the victims in Belgium and to shine their cellphone lights for her heart-rending rendition of Diamonds. And just like the song, this star shone brightest in DC.

There were spectacular visuals, such as a large white curtain backdrop that dripped giant chunks of foam throughout the show, a seemingly floating clear catwalk that carried RiRi from the back of the arena to the main stage, and some impressive glittering dancers. The concert spotlighted Rihanna’s rise from a dancehall singles diva, with a string of hits—Man Down, Rude Boy, Take Care and her latest No. 1, Work—to now an anti-pop star of her own creation.
