I am Yup'ik Screening!

Placeholder

We went to the Angelika Theatre Pop-Up at Union Market for a special screening of a Sundance documentary short, ESPN film I am Yup'ik. We snapped Edelman PR's Ashkon Eslami with 9:30 Club's Maggie Cannon and Oxfam International's Simon Hernandez-Arthur. The film centers on a native Alaskan teenager and his tundra-rural high school basketball team as they compete in a highly competitive basketball tournament.

The film was made in conjunction with ESPN's 30 For 30 and was a hit at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Here, Venga's Aditya Sridhar, Winslow Marshall, Michael Suro, and Caitlin Kingsley join SageWater's Scott Seel.

Following the screening guests joined the film's directors and production team for an after-party at a nearby warehouse with a BBQ, DJ and theater snacks. Here, independent photographer Josh Cogan, Run Riot Films' Josie Swandek Heitz and BUB Baby's Taryn Tuss.

Guests enjoyed an open bar of beer and wine and cocktails from Cotton & Reed, a local rum distillery. The Lookout is a local co-working space for video production that worked early on with the I am Yup'ik team. Its owner, Ian Fay, right, is with EMIC Films' Kohl Threlkeld, and his mom, Nancy Fay.
