Shakespeare’s 450th Birthday!

Last night we also went to an elegant, black-tie evening at the Folger Shakespeare Library for its annual Folger Gala and a special celebration for William Shakespeare’s 450th birthday. Proceeds support Folger’s cultural and educational programs. We snapped Int’l Journal of Hygiene and Environmental Health’s Undine Nash, CBCA’s Stephan Daniels, and his wife National Gallery of Art’s Maygene Daniels.

The evening began with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres while guests viewed an exhibition of Shakespeare’s The Thing in the Great Hall. Here, writer Lisa Fuentes, IIMC’s Guillermo Schultz and his wife Cecilia.

In honor of the birthday of the most read writer in the world, guests gathered for entertainment in the Elizabethan Theatre as Fiasco’s actors talked about their favorite Shakespearean phrases and characters, and joked about mangling famous lines during a performance. A delicious three-course dinner was prepared for 250 in the Reading Room. Guests ate pea soup with mint olive oil, sautéed lamb chops with mushroom barley risotto, and passion fruit bavarois. Here, Georgina Train, Christina Griffin, Coldwell Banker’s Cecilia Monahan, and wine prof Jackie Quillen.
