WBA to Honor Lt. Gen. Flora Darpino

Lt. Gen. Flora Darpino, the Judge Advocate General of the US Army, is the first woman to hold that position since the first JAG was appointed by George Washington in 1775.

That achievement and other accomplishments and "firsts" make her the Women's Bar Association's 2016 Woman Lawyer of the Year. She'll be honored at the WBA/WBA Foundation annual dinner on May 25 in the National Building Museum.

As the senior military lawyer for the Army, Lt. Gen. Darpino directs the 10,000-lawyer JAG Corps in the US and abroad. She's also focused on mentorship and professional development throughout her career, especially for JAG Corp's women.

This year's annual dinner theme is "Advancing Together." Next year will mark the WBA's centennial celebration.
