Braving the snowy streets this week, Steptoe lawyers, staff and friends gathered at Dupont Circle’s Darlington House to wish a fond farewell to Sandy Chamblee, the firm’s first chief diversity partner. Sandy is retiring after a four-decade career that includes helping create a diverse and inclusive environment at Steptoe.

She's flanked by Steptoe chair Phil West and Legal Services Corp president and Steptoe Diversity Advisory Board chair Jim Sandman.

Sandy summered at Steptoe in 1976 and joined the firm as an associate in 1977. She spent her entire career at the firm, other than a period between 1992 and 1995 when she served in two senior policy positions at NIH. During her term as Steptoe’s chief diversity partner, the firm received accolades including the Minority Corporate Counsel Association’s Thomas L. Sager Award and the inaugural MCCA Innovator Award.
