RBG Takes 'Mock Trial' To Venice

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

The opera and theater-loving Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is participating in a mock trial this summer in Venice. Appropriately, the trial is based around Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice; in particular, a lawsuit between characters Shylock and Antonio.

It's organized by the group The Merchant in Venice as part of a commemoration of the 500 years since the establishment Venice's Jewish Ghetto, and the 400th anniversary of the Bard's death, reports the Quartz. Tickets will run you a minimum of $2,500. [QZ]

Shakespeare Theatre Company Mock Trial 2015

As DC locals know, RBG is no stranger to mock trials. She's been presiding over the popular Shakespeare Theatre Company mock trial nearly every year since 2003.

She'll be presiding over this summer's STC Mock Trial in DC as well, a month before she heads to Venice. It'll explore The Trial of Winston vs. Oceania - 1984. Joining her on the bench on June 20 will be Justice Breyer, Judge Tatel, Judge Kavanaugh and Judge Millett.
