The Amazing Race Around DC

Placeholder

Every year, Nixon Peabody's DC office hosts some fall fun that matches their love for the outdoors with their love for selfies. The Amazing Foot Race Challenge gives out a daily clue that sends DC lawyers and staff looking for a historic landmark or monument within walking distance of the office. Once there, they take a photograph for proof. Here's DC managing partner Jeff Lesk putting in a lunchtime visit to Ford's Theater.

Janet Brake, above at the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial, sends out the daily "challenge" to the firm. She got the idea in '09, inspired by The Amazing Race show and interested in inspiring colleagues to get moving, while also learning about Washington's history. She planned it the first year with Shaun Taylor. The person who completes the most challenges is the winner.

Here's Marcia Middleton and Keran Eubanks completing the last challenge, at the Court of Neptune Fountain. The landmarks get progressively further from the firm's 409 Ninth St office, so by the end, participants are walking easily 10,000 steps over lunch. That's worth a high-five.
