Mayer Brown's Sharon Israel is the new head of the 15,000-member American IP Law Association. She's been an AIPLA member for 20 years, serving on its board, as an executive committee member, and as chair or vice-chair of seven committees. Here at the annual meeting in DC, immediate past president Wayne Sobon passed the gavel. (This is the first time we've seen an entire crowd photobomb a picture.) After a degree from MIT, Sharon started off as an engineer with GE before getting her JD and MBA at Emory. That background comes in handy for cases such as repping client DSM on a patent for coated optical fibers. Sharon says focuses for her presidency include policy advocacy and membership outreach.
