Buttery Biscuits for a Good Cause

Students from Hospitality High, a DC charter school for youth anticipating careers in, you guessed it, hospitality, served as sous chefs at Biscuit Bash Wednesday night. “Life is good when you know what the hell you want to do at a young age; for me it was fried chicken,” chef Art Smith tells the crowd. Art & Soul at the Liaison Hotel played host for the evening as biscuit makers from Menu MBK, Vidalia, Jackson 20, Rappahannock River Oysters and BlackSalt battled it out, but ultimately the crowd named Vidalia the winner.

From left to right we snapped 94.7 Fresh FM personality Tommy McFly, chef Art Smith, the winning team from Vidalia with their Hospitality High sous chef, and the Liaison Hotel's Tricia Barba. The fundraiser also featured cocktails from Derek Brown, oysters from Rappahannock and a whole roasted lamb from Border Springs. A live band played as guests milled around sampling sweet and savory biscuits and voting for their favorites. Many dishes were enhanced by the signature spring flavor of ramps.
