XAPPmedia's Purse Grows

The DC company bringing interactive audio content and advertising to Internet radio announced Thursday it raised $3.8M from its current investors. XAPPmedia isn't revealing the investors, but many are DC-based, says CMO Bret Kinsella. The round brings the company’s total outside funding to $6.8M. The company plans to expand its audio services to pure play and streaming radio providers, which means it will be doing some hiring in the next few months, says Bret—many of them software engineers.

It’s been just a year since the startup launched XAPP Ads, which are hands free, eyes free, voice activated ads for Internet radio and mobile audio audiences. Consumers can connect directly with brands through voice activation or get back to listening to tunes when the ads aren’t relevant. One of the company’s biggest customers is NPR, and the company recently formed a partnership with Jacapps, which has over 300 radio stations streaming through its mobile app platform.
