More Women On Boards

Placeholder

Women are filling more corporate board seats. Of the 339 new directors appointed to Fortune 500 boards in 2014, 99 were women (that's 30%), says the most recent Heidrick & Struggles Board Monitor. It's up from 26% in 2013 and 23% in 2012. Women will account for half of new board directors in the Fortune 500 for the first time in 2024, predicts the monitor. So what’s changed? North America vice chairman Bonnie Gwin (above) says companies are recognizing that governance results improve when there’s more diversity. Also, companies have traditionally gone with the notion that the ideal director must have CEO experience. Now boards are more open to candidates with different leadership backgrounds.
