Some of the DC region’s top CIOs and CTOs stepped away from their computers last night to be honored at Disruption in Crystal City.

They came from high-flying startups, publicly traded companies and  government agencies, and they were chosen for their innovation and leadership of some of the most complex IT systems.

HelloWallet CTO Mitch Shue (right) and colleague Evan Samrek. Mitch has been CTO four years and oversees a team of 25 and growing. HelloWallet, a financial planning application, was acquired by Morningstar nearly a year ago. Mitch is working on a new hiring process for all software engineering and QA talent for Morningstar in Chicago. (Interesting fact: 28% of Morningstar’s 3,500-plus employees are technologists.)

FCC CIO David Bray (center) is flanked by just a handful of the 375 people on the agency’s IT team. When David took over the CIO position in 2013, the agency was 15 years behind the times. Now David and the team are working on moving all FCC IT services at HQ to a managed service provider and the cloud.
