It's Time for DC's First Winery

Brooklyn Winery owners Bryan Leventhal and John Stires are in talks with Forest City Washington about building a 15k SF building at 385 Water St SE at The Yards. If all goes according to plan, District Winery, the working name for the stand-alone site, will open in about two years, and be DC's first winery and event venue. According to applications filed Friday, the venue will have 450 seats and a 750-person occupancy, with a 100-seat outdoor patio, the Washington Business Journal reports. Plans also call for a separate event venue and restaurant with tasting room, allowing the winery to always be open to the public. Leventhal believes the waterfront location will make it as popular a wedding destination as its trendy Williamsburg sibling. [WBJ]
