Amazon To Open Bookstore In Georgetown

The Georgetown block once home to a multi-level Barnes & Noble store will soon welcome DC's first Amazon Books location.

Vornado CEO Steve Roth told investors Amazon had leased 10K SF at 3040 M St. NW in Georgetown, the Washington Post reports. Roth did not say when the Amazon Books store would open. The storefront was most recently occupied by Barney's New York.

Amazon first unveiled its bookstore concept in Seattle in November 2015. The stores offer Amazon a place to show off its own products in addition to selling books available on the website. The e-commerce giant announced a goal to open 400 of the bookstores. Amazon's brick-and-mortar offerings also include one grocery store and several online pickup locations, including one that recently opened in College Park.
