One Condo Developer Cultivating Interest With Weed Closets

A new amenity offered by a local developer is creating quite a buzz and has led to some high demand (and munchies).

Eric Hirshfield has incorporated marijuana grow closets into his condo project on the 500 block of Kenyon Street NW, Urban Turf reports. Interest in the unique amenity has exceeded Hirshfield’s expectations, as both buyers and builders have inquired about the design and installation process for grow closets.

“Due to the buzz and high demand, I will be installing this amenity in all my condos developments from here on,” Hirshfield told Urban Turf. Hirshfield plans to include grow closets in all of the units at his new project near Irving Street and Georgia Avenue NW and is researching fully automated grow appliances that can be recessed into a wall.

Hirshfield’s smoking-hot new amenity is a direct result of DC Initiative 71, which was passed earlier this year and makes it legal to possess up to six marijuana plants within one’s primary residence. Bisnow is unable to confirm that "munchies cabinets" will soon become mandatory for future residential projects in the District. [UT]
