Federal officials working on the government’s D.C.-area real estate decisions could soon be moving out of Southwest D.C.

The GSA plans to relocate its National Capital Region team from 301 Seventh St. SW to its national headquarters at 1800 F St. NW, the Washington Business Journal reports, citing an internal email from administrator Emily Murphy.

Murphy did not say what The GSA plans to do with the Southwest D.C. building, but said it aims to maximize the utilization of the property. The GSA had previously looked at selling the regional office as part of a swap to renovate its headquarters, but that deal fell through.

The GSA is the largest tenant in the D.C. region, occupying 17% of real estate in the District and 14% in the Metro area. Over the next five years, the agency has 28M SF of expiring D.C.-area leases it must address as it looks to save taxpayer money with longer-term deals. The National Capital Regional office is led by Scott Anderson, who was appointed in January. Darren Blue leads the National Capital Region’s Public Buildings Service, the part of the agency directly involved in real estate decisions.
