The Drug Enforcement Agency is consolidating multiple D.C.-area offices under one new lease in Chantilly.

Unicom Technology Park Conference Center in Chantilly, Virginia, has nearly 700K SF of office space.

The agency will take 175K SF at Unicom Technology Park Conference Center, increasing its footprint by about 38K SF. The General Services Administration announced Thursday it awarded a $113M contract to Unicom Technology Park Inc. via the government's procurement website.

The Virginia offices the DEA is consolidating from include one at 14560 Avion Parkway in Chantilly and another at 2675 Prosperity Ave. in Merrifield, in addition to a variety of other small offices in the capital region, according to a prior lease prospectus. The agency is headquartered in Springfield, Virginia.

The GSA released the lease prospectus for the agency in 2020, detailing the need for more space.

"The current facilities do not have the space to conduct mission-critical operational and coordination meetings,” it said. "The increased footprint includes the meeting, office, and support space to address this space need and enable coordinated investigative operations with local, State, Federal, and international entities."

The GSA and the DEA didn't respond to requests for comment in time for publication. CBRE’s Henry Chapman and Sarah Maxwell were the brokers on the deal, according to SAM.gov.

The Unicom Technology Park Conference Center at 15000 and 15010 Conference Center Drive is made up of two office parks, one with 470K SF across 35 acres and the other with 224K SF across 17 acres.

The properties have been owned by Unicom Global since 2015, before which they were known as Washington Technology Park I and II.

Unicom houses subsidiary Unicom Government on the premises, a firm that provides information technology and professional services for local, state and federal governments. The center hosts events for government agencies and showcases Unicom education and certification offerings, according to its website.

Though this lease represents an expansion, the GSA has been working to reduce the federal government’s office footprint over the past several years. In the past few months, it has signaled plans to reduce the National Labor Relations Board’s D.C. footprint by 40% and one of the Department of Justice’s leases by over 150K SF.
