Health clubs, clothing and other soft goods retailers and more grocery options are in need in Shaw and Mt. Vernon Triangle.

Scores of residential (like JBG's Atlantic Plumbing in Shaw above) and office have been added to these neighborhoods, but Roadside Development principal Richard Lake says Shaw, in particular, could use a health club and some of the soft goods retailers you might find in the ‘burbs.

And even though Mt. Vernon Triangle got a 24-hour Safeway grocery store a few years ago, residents are starting to ask for more options in the market.

One thing that had been lacking for many years was hospitality options. Aside from a Hampton Inn and one of DC’s only hostels, Shaw and Mt. Vernon were sparse on accommodations. That’s about to change. Two are coming to Mt. Vernon Triangle: Peebles Corp will break ground on DC's first SLS Lux hotel at 5th and I streets. Lima Hotels is also in the works at 4th and K streets on a 14-story, 200-key hotel with 30 apartments. A Kimpton Hotel is coming to Shaw at the City Market at O project.
