One of Southwest DC’s most conveniently located apartment communities has received the go-ahead to add a second residential building.

Capitol Park Towers, located at 301 G Street SW, is a nine-story tower with 289 units. Last month, the Historic Preservation Review Board approved plans for a second residential building with up to 330 units, Urban Turf reports.

Owners Perseus Realty and Urban Investment Partners went through several rounds of revisions to receive the rubber stamp from HPRB, and to ensure the new building would match up with the existing building and landscaping. The revisions, including an open pathway between the two buildings as opposed to an enclosed corridor, lined up with HPRB’s recommendations, and construction is slated to begin this fall. Perseus and UIP have assembled a development team that includes WDG Architects and Lee and Associates.

Capitol Park Towers is within walking distance of three Metro stops, and features a community pool and sundeck among its amenities. It’s also not too far from the proposed mixed-use development known as The Bard from the Shakespeare Theatre and Erkiletian Development. [UT]
