Luxury Retailers Are Realizing They
Don't Need Department Stores
Coach this week pulled its purses and wallets out of 250 department stores, roughly a quarter of the stores that sell its goods. This strategy, aimed at avoiding department stores' runaway promotions, seems to have worked- 40% of Coach's Q2 sales came from products above $400, up from 30% last year.
