15 Things You Need to Know This Morning

What You Don’t Know About Earl Armiger

Title: Chairman/CEO, Orchard Development.
Job: Became chairman and CEO last November at 35th anniversary. Had served as founder and president. 
Company: Developer, owner, manager of market rate, luxury, affordable, mixed-income and senior apartments from southern Pennsylvania to Northern Virginia. Occasionally do some for-sale 55+ housing, mixed-used projects containing retail and apartments and adaptive re-use. Volume averages $30M-$35M per year; 50 employees.
Memorable project: First land development project—Sewell’s Orchard, 750 lots in Columbia. 
Current project: Cultural arts center/mixed-income housing complex being planned for downtown Columbia. 200 apartments and “artist flats” and 100k SF of performing arts and visual arts spaces. Shooting for 2017 groundbreaking. 
CRE career: Started as city planner in Florida after grad school. 
Grew up: Bethesda and Wheaton/Silver Spring. 
Childhood memory: Spent afternoons playing pick-up basketball, tackle football and baseball. 
Current home: Ellicott City.
Schools: Western Maryland College and UNC at Chapel Hill. 
Job in another life: Center fielder for Nats or roadie/backup for Diana Krall.
Favorite app: Weather. 
Favorite movie: Casablanca.
Favorite restaurant: Cafe Fiorello in Manhattan.
Favorite music: Zac Brown Band.
Favorite vacation spot: Hutchinson Island, FL.
Favorite charity: Community Foundation of Howard County.
Hidden talent: “Ski pretty well for an old man.”
Coast, desert, mountain: Colorado Rockies during ski season.
Drink of choice: Very dry Grey Goose martini, straight up with lemon peel.
Couldn’t live without: Wife.
Family: Married to Mary; adult son and two daughters; six grandkids and two great-grandkids; and beloved (recently passed) Wheaton Terrier. 
Hobbies: Skiing, fishing, boating, photography, reading. 
Pet peeve: When being “PC” hurts community, country and society.
Startling fact: On maiden outing on first boat out of Ocean City, caught a white marlin. “Wife says it’s also startling that I still think I’m 39.”
