What You Didn’t Know About Sarosh Olpadwala

Title: Director of Real Estate, Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning & Economic Development.
Job: Works with team of 20+ project managers on DC’s real estate disposition portfolio; works with sister agencies and community to identify development opportunities for all DC-owned land and building assets.
On the job: Since start of Bowser administration in January 2015.
DC’s development projects from public disposition: Over 70 active projects. 
Most memorable project: The Shakespeare Theatre – resourceful structure that created a theatre inside an office building, resulting in premier playhouse.
Current project: Parcel 42 in Shaw – Using an innovative community engagement process called “OurRFP.”
Grew up: Ithaca, NY.
Current home: Cleveland Park.
Why DC: Got a job as an office engineer for Clark Construction.
School: Cornell for BS in engineering and MBA.
First job: Mowing lawns and shoveling snow.
Job in another life: Blacksmith – “Impressive what can be created from heat and a hunk of metal.”
Daily habits: Answer work e-mails at 2 am and not getting a lot of sleep.
Favorite app: Waiting for Google to make a zoning map.
Favorite actor: John Candy.
Favorite restaurant: Boss Shepherd’s. 
Favorite band and song: AC/DC – Thunderstruck.
Favorite vacation spot: Germany.
Guilty pleasure: Raw beef at Dukem.
Bucket list: Fostering service dogs.
Hobbies: Carving yew wood – mostly end up with lots of sawdust and unrecognizable objects.
Startling fact: Volunteer firefighter at 16 and lived in a fire department as a bunker in college.
