22-Unit Condo Building Planned for Corner of 8th and Virginia

Northfield Development plans to bring a 22-unit condo building to a long vacant site on the southeast corner of Virginia Avenue SE and 8th Street in the Capitol Riverfront.

The site is at 801 Virginia Ave and has been targeted for several projects over the past decade that have failed to move forward. Northfield purchased the land this past July for $1.8M, JDLand reports. Plans call for a four-story building with 22 condos, from studios to three-bedrooms and 3k SF of ground-floor retail. The developers plan to break ground in March 2016.

The neighborhood has been a hub of activity of late, including the reconstruction of the Virginia Avenue Tunnel. In addition to Northfield’s proposed project, there are several condo projects in the pipeline. This past summer, Jair Lynch received approval to move forward with its 10-story mixed-use building at the corner of Half Street SE and M Street, a portion of which will be residential units. [JDLand]
