Fairfax County Board Approves Demolition Of API Building

The former American Press Institute building in Reston will soon be demolished to make way for 34 condos and 10 townhomes.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve developer Sekas Homes' plans for the building, Reston Now reports.

The 42-year-old building was designed by Marcel Breuer. While some residents spoke at the board meeting about its architectural qualities, brokers revealed they have been unable to lease the office building since the API left in 2012

The site is at Sunrise Valley Drive and Roland Clarke Place, just east of Reston Heights and across from Reston National golf course. The condos will range from 1,170 to 1,600 SF, with four units designated as workforce housing and 12% reserved for affordable housing. [RN]
