New Building, Renovations to Cost Medstar Georgetown $560M

Medstar Georgetown University Hospital submitted a proposal this week for the construction of a new hospital building and a renovation of existing units. If approved by District regulators, MedStar would spend $560M for the project.

Plans call for a new 477k SF medical and surgical pavilion next to the existing hospital. The building would have a rooftop helipad and house a new emergency department, advanced imaging services, intensive care beds and operating rooms. Trammell Crow has been retained to manage development while Shalom Baranes and HKS have been tasked with design.

Medstar hopes to begin construction late next year with completion slated for 2020. The project is one of several recent healthcare projects in the area, including Inova Fairfax Hospital’s new $400M tower to house its new women’s hospital. [WBJ]
