Baltimore-based Shelter Development has proposed a seven-story senior living facility in Rockville, adding to the city’s growth in senior housing.

The developer behind Brightview Senior Living facilities throughout the East Coast wants to construct 198 units of senior-specific housing at 1201 Seven Locks Road, Bethesda Magazine reports. Of the units, 120 would be designated for independent living while the rest would be for assisted living and memory care. Shelter Development submitted a site plan application in May and is expected to meet June 22 with Rockville’s Development Review Committee.

Rockville’s population has grown by nearly 9% since 2010, according to recent population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau. While the city’s transit access has been key to growth, Rockville’s surge of senior housing has attracted scores of seniors nationwide to move to the Maryland city, David Levy, Rockville's chief of long-range planning and redevelopment, told the Frederick News Post in May.
