Ike Leggett Requests $200k To Help Keep Health Firm In Montgomery County

Bethesda-based health services company University Research Co is expanding to Chevy Chase and could have some help from the county government

The Montgomery County Council will consider a request Tuesday from county executive Ike Leggett to give $200k of county funds to help the federal government contractor expand within the county, Bethesda Beat reports. The grant would go along with a $700k state grant to help with the planned Chevy Chase expansion.

University Research employs 165 people at its office at The JBG Cos' 7200 Wisconsin Ave in Bethesda. It recently signed a lease for a 54k SF office in Boston Properties' Wisconsin Place—pictured above—at 5404 Wisconsin Ave near the Friendship Heights Metro station, where it plans to add another 150 full-time jobs.

The company's total expansion investment is estimated at $3M, Leggett wrote in his request. The county grant would come from its Economic Development Fund. After Leggett's request is introduced Tuesday, a vote is scheduled for June 21

The economic incentive package has become relatively routine in this area, which is why Bisnow is hosting representatives from the governments of Maryland, Virginia and DC to discuss the topic at our Property Management and Leasing Forum next month. [BB]
