Will Foreign Investors Save the Franklin School?

As Mayor Muriel Bowser continues to seek a new development team for the Franklin School, The District will include the 925 13th St. NW building in a five-hour bus tour for foreign investors to see if it can drum up some interest. The tour includes Qatari-funded CityCenterDC and the Canadian-funded Wharf as examples of the potential of foreign-funded development. Now the Franklin School will be proposed as an example of what could be, reports the Washington Business Journal. The vacant, Adolf Cluss-designed national landmark was opened in 1869, and has been home to DC’s Public School administration, Alexander Graham Bell’s “photophone” tests, and a homeless shelter. The deadline for proposals has been extended to May 4. [WBJ]
