USGBC and CAFB Break Ground on Greenbuild Legacy Project

In preparation for Greenbuild, this week the USGBC and Capital Area Food Bank broke ground on the 2015 Greenbuild legacy project, a gift the USGBC gives each year to the city that hosts Greenbuild. CAFB's proposal, which was co-submitted with HKS Architects and Clark Construction Group, was selected among 12 initial submissions. The project is a new urban food studio to teach underserved members of the DC area about growing and cooking healthy fresh food. USGBC will donate $10k in seed funding and continue to provide further support with fundraising, materials and volunteers. CAFB already serves more than 500,000 DC residents struggling with hunger. Greenbuild, the largest annual green building conference and expo in the world, will kick off Nov. 18.
