How time flies! This year marks the fifth annual SED Center Pub Games, hosted each year to raise funds and support for the Spanish Education and Development Center of Washington, DC. Today, the SED Center provides bilingual infant and preschool programs for children ages 3 months to 4 years old and a high-quality adult education program that includes English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), computer training and GED classes.

The Pub Games are run by their founder, Boston Properties senior executive vice president Ray Ritchey. Created as an alternative to the usual fundraiser galas and black-tie functions, the games offer a carefree, crazy-fun atmosphere away from the daily stress of DC CRE. Last year’s games raised a total of $130K for the center, with this year’s anticipated to haul in even more.

Following suit from each past year, the May 17 event will take place at the bilevel Penn Social bar in the Penn Quarter of DC. Over 30 real estate teams from the DC area will compete in a night of raucously competitive skeeball, Jenga, foosball and countless other arcade games fueled by endless pizza and drinks. Each year, SED Center Pub Games administrator Sarah Fieldhouse said, team costumes get wilder and wilder — and this year will likely be the craziest yet.

“If you’ve never seen an Elvis impersonator ride a mechanical bull, you haven’t lived,” Fieldhouse joked.

The SED Center already has 15 sponsors in the works, including Transwestern and Wingate Hughes. To learn more about the SED Center Pub Games, click here.
