DC Mid-Rise Projects Are Getting Cheaper. Here's why.

Placeholder

A change to the International Building Code could greatly reduce the cost of constructing mid-rise buildings—up to 85 feet—in DC. If the DC Council adopts the change, it would mean developers could use wood and steel above a two-story concrete podium for buildings that are eight stories high. The city council will consider adopting the change by July, Greater Greater Washington reports. One development we recently featured is already planning to build according to the new code: The View at Waterfront, a Mill Creek Residential project. Two 85-foot-tall buildings by the Waterfront Metro in Southwest, are expected to break ground in Q2 2016, containing a combined 260 units and 5,220 SF of retail. [GGW]
