45-Unit Development Coming to Hill East

A parking garage in Hill East is coming down, to be replaced by a 45-unit mixed-use development that'll include townhouses, apartments and a carriage house. OPaL DC is planning to build Watkins Alley, with 30 townhouses, 14 condos and that carriage house at 1311 E St SE. Jerry's Automotive Center, which has served the Hill for decades, will be demolished along with its neighboring warehouse, Hill Now reports. OPaL, which has specialized in these small, boutique developments around the District and the region, expects to receive final approval in July. Instead of the standard studio and one-bedroom apartments in DC, OPaL is building three- and four-bedroom townhouses and two- and three-bedroom condos. [HN]
