The Carlyle Group, one of the world's largest private equity firms, has brought on a new partner and managing director to lead its real estate fundraising team.

Lee Purcell, who spent the last six years as managing director at Greenhill & Co, will join Carlyle to oversee the seven-person team, a source confirmed to Bisnow

Earlier in his career, Lee worked on the real estate teams for Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank. Before earning his MBA from Northwestern in 2003, Lee worked as an associate for Carlyle, where he will return in a substantially larger role.

Lee will report to Michael Arphy, Carlyle's head of investor relations. Above, Carlyle Group CEO David Rubenstein speaks at Bisnow's DC State of the market in June, where gave his outlook on the DC and national economy.

The position was previously held by Alok Gaur, who left the firm last month to join Chicago-based LaSalle Investment Management as co-head of its client capital group.
