Section 8 Funding Could Be Back This Year
Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, DC's lone congressional representative, is trying to fund the Section 8 housing vouchers that were cut during sequestration. The congresswoman introduced an amendment to a FY2016 appropriations bill that would restore funding for 67,000 housing choice vouchers, which she said fills a critical need, reports RealEstateRama. In DC, a family has to earn more than $28 an hour to afford a two-bedroom apartment, she said on the floor of Congress, and the city has had to close its waiting list for affordable housing, considering there are already 72,000 people on it.
