Section 8 Funding Could Be Back This Year

Placeholder

Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, DC's lone congressional representative, is trying to fund the Section 8 housing vouchers that were cut during sequestration. The congresswoman introduced an amendment to a FY2016 appropriations bill that would restore funding for 67,000 housing choice vouchers, which she said fills a critical need, reports RealEstateRama. In DC, a family has to earn more than $28 an hour to afford a two-bedroom apartment, she said on the floor of Congress, and the city has had to close its waiting list for affordable housing, considering there are already 72,000 people on it. Shameless self-promotion: Bisnow is hosting an event this month discussing the state of affordable housing in the District.
