Future Shop Abruptly Shuts Its Doors

A total of 66 Future Shop locations will be shut nationwide, with 65 more transitioning to the Best Buy brand. Of B.C.'s 22 stores, nine will be closed and 13 converted into a Best Buy (which acquired the electronics retailer in 2001). Future Shop, which started in Burnaby in 1982, will shutter the 1740 W Broaday location, while 798 Granville St will be converted. The parent company noted that a number of Future Shop and Best Buy stores are located adjacent to each other, often sharing a parking lot.
