Amazon to Vancouver?

Vancouver

Rumours abound that Amazon is taking a big chunk of office space at the $750M Telus Garden, scheduled for completion in 2015.

The million square foot Telus Garden on Richards Street will be the new national home to Telus. The office tower will be 24 storeys, the residential condo component 53 floors. TechVibes wrote a story about Amazon's plans to take at least 91k SF, but no one connected to the project--listing agents JLL and Cushman & Wakefield, developer Westbank--is confirming it (despite our insistence that we're Amazon Prime members). Bisnow has been able to get confirmation from several other industry sources. One high-up source told us the stats put out there regarding the deal are not accurate. So as Lenny Kravitz says, "It Ain't Over Til It's Over."

What a message it would send the world about the growth of the tech community in Vancouver. Still, we couldn't get much out of Cushman & Wakefield SVP Mark Chambers: "As the office leasing broker for the building...we have an incredible amount of interest in the development, and there is only limited amount of space still available." On the retail side being handled by CBRE, a spokeswoman from Westbank told us the same thing--lots of interest, but no formal deals yet.
